The 2026 (27th) Hainan Island Carnival will be held from July 18 to August 18, offering a month-long celebration across the entire island. With the theme "Vibrant Free Trade Port, Charming Hainan Island," the carnival presents more than 50 distinctive events, blending ocean thrills, rainforest wonders, cultural heritage, signature cuisine, and nighttime light shows.
Unlike traditional island holiday models, this year's carnival introduces a concept of "the whole island as a carnival," breaking free from conventional scenic spots. Four thematic segments debut with water sports, joyful performances, gourmet flavors, and trendy shopping, catering to outdoor adventurers, cultural enthusiasts, family travelers, and food lovers.
Highlights unfold across Hainan. In Sanya and Lingshui, beach music festivals and island art exhibitions create a romantic seaside atmosphere. Wanning and Qionghai offer trendy outdoor pursuits like surfing and island cycling. The central rainforest region focuses on wellness with rainforest trekking and Li and Miao cultural experiences. On the western coast, Danzhou's Haihua Island will host a spectacular mass chorus carnival as the grand finale.
A culinary carnival spans the island, with coastal specialty markets, Southeast Asian–style food streets, and rainforest-themed dining. Fresh seafood, local snacks, and Southeast Asian flavors are featured, along with a starry beachside gala dinner combining ocean views, gourmet cuisine, and live music.
For international visitors, Hainan continues to expand openness: citizens of 86 countries enjoy visa-free entry with a 30-day stay, as noted on the Hainan government website. International routes at Haikou and Sanya airports are increasing, making the island directly accessible. The carnival upgrades exclusive benefits for international visitors, including multilingual guided tours, exclusive discounted flight & hotel packages, and special duty-free promotions, delivering wealth of benefits across the island.
