ADAP Advocacy Launches Digital Commercial to Push for 340B Reform as Patient Debt Mounts

ADAP Advocacy has released a new digital commercial as part of its 340B Project, reinforcing the central message of its earlier policy paper titled "340B PROGRAM: The Glue That Should Hold Our Healthcare System Together." The commercial, which will air across numerous digital and social platforms, argues that the 340B Drug Pricing Program is too large and too important to be left to good faith alone. Instead, it calls for improved accountability and transparency guardrails to ensure the program serves its intended beneficiaries: patients.

The 340B Program touches nearly every corner of the healthcare ecosystem. It acts as a financial backbone for certain services and providers nationwide, including those focused on HIV care. However, ADAP Advocacy contends that the program is failing to deliver on its promise of expanding affordable healthcare. As evidence, the organization points to the growing medical debt crisis in the United States, much of which is owed to hospitals. Brandon M. Macsata, CEO of ADAP Advocacy, said the debate over whether to reform 340B has largely been settled. "For patients, it is failing to deliver on its promise of expanding affordable healthcare, as shown by the growing medical debt crisis in this country, much of it owed to hospitals," Macsata stated. "Our new digital commercial moves the debate forward as Congress debates 340B legislation."

The commercial is part of ADAP Advocacy's broader "340B Too Big To Fail" national advocacy campaign. That campaign highlights hospitals' declining charity care, rising healthcare executive compensation, and exploding patient medical debt, among other issues. By bringing these concerns to a wider audience through digital advertising, ADAP Advocacy aims to pressure lawmakers to act on 340B reform.

The implications of this announcement extend beyond a single commercial. As Congress considers 340B legislation, the voices of patient advocacy groups like ADAP Advocacy could shape the outcome. The organization's mission is to promote and enhance the AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAPs) and improve access to care for persons living with HIV/AIDS. It works with advocates, community members, health care providers, government officials, patients, pharmaceutical companies, and other stakeholders to raise awareness, offer patient education programs, and foster greater community collaboration. If the program is not reformed, ADAP Advocacy warns, the very patients it was designed to help may continue to face rising costs and limited access to care.
