The Alamo will celebrate the grand opening of the Alamo Promenade on November 21, 2025, at 11 a.m. on Plaza de Valero, transforming a traditional street into a pedestrian-friendly gateway that connects Texas heritage with San Antonio's future. The event, called "Happy Trails," will feature speakers including Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Alamo Trust, Inc., President and CEO Hope Andrade, who will cut the ribbon on this new chapter of the Alamo's 300-year history.
The Promenade creates a sense of arrival from Commerce Street onto the historic site, with statues honoring key historical figures leading toward the nearby Briscoe Western Art Museum. This connection strengthens the cultural corridor between two major destinations. The project also marks the culmination of the Alamo Statewide Stampede, a fundraising challenge issued earlier this year that encouraged all Texans to preserve Texas history by giving back to the Alamo. The winning counties, judged on a per capita basis, will be announced during the ceremony.
The Alamo Promenade is supported by The Building Texas Show, a statewide platform that celebrates how the Promenade strengthens the bridge between Texas heritage and the future of San Antonio and the state. The project exemplifies ongoing work to honor the past while shaping a more connected, vibrant, and forward-looking Texas.
The Alamo, designated a United States National Historic Landmark in 1960 and part of the Lone Star State's only UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015, remains the #1 most visited destination in Texas, attracting over 1.6 million visitors annually. Alamo Trust, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, oversees daily operations and implementation of the Alamo Plan. More information about the site and its programs is available at Visit the Alamo.
