Angkor Resources Corp. (TSXV: ANK, OTCQB: ANKOF) has completed the initial phase of its diamond drilling program at the Andong Bor copper-gold target in Cambodia, with encouraging results that underscore the project's potential. The company planned a total of 2,800 meters of drilling, of which 1,099 meters were completed in mid-July across three holes at the Thmei North target, a one-square-kilometer copper anomaly. The program is staged around Cambodia's seasonal weather, with the remaining 1,700 meters scheduled for early 2027 once fields are dry and crops harvested.
Dennis Ouellette, VP Exploration, noted that two of the three holes encountered good porphyry and skarn mineralization over the 400 meters each was drilled, with some skarn sections particularly well mineralized. The third hole contained over 200 meters of continuous pyrite mineralization up to 20%. These findings are significant for the company's exploration efforts in Cambodia, a country with emerging mineral potential.
The Andong Bor license covers 100.28 square kilometers across Oddar Meanchey and Banteay Meanchey provinces. Drilling in 2025 revealed that the main controlling structures strike north-northwest and dip steeply west, prompting the company to drill eastward to better intersect mineralized beds. The modified copper porphyry model suggests the best mineralization occurs within potassic-altered sediments adjacent to feldspar porphyry diorite dikes, which vary in width from a few meters to tens of meters. By drilling east, the company aims to maximize intersections of mineralized sedimentary rocks through alternating lithologies.
The core from the completed holes is being logged, photographed, and sampled, with selected intervals dispatched for assay. The second phase will target both Thmei North and Thmei South, continuing through 2027. This systematic approach is crucial for advancing the project and de-risking the exploration program.
Angkor Resources is a leading resource explorer and developer in Cambodia, holding two mineral exploration licenses with multiple copper and gold prospects. The company's energy subsidiary, EnerCam Resources, is also advancing onshore oil and gas exploration under Block VIII, having completed 2D seismic in 2025 and identified multiple drill targets. The company plans to drill Cambodia's first privately financed onshore exploratory wells under a Production Sharing Contract.
The initial drilling results at Andong Bor are a positive step for Angkor Resources, demonstrating the potential for significant copper-gold mineralization in Cambodia. The company's phased approach, aligning with local agricultural cycles, ensures minimal environmental impact and community disruption. As assays are processed and the second phase begins in 2027, stakeholders will be watching closely for further developments.
