Rick Wilton, a retired healthcare executive and author, has announced the release of his new devotional, Every Breath, a book aimed at helping readers navigate life's most difficult and unwanted journeys through faith and reliance on God. The devotional addresses universal experiences such as unexpected diagnoses, broken dreams, grief, and seasons of waiting, offering a compassionate perspective that God remains faithful even in the midst of suffering.
According to the announcement, Every Breath encourages readers to lean on God's Word, cultivate a life of prayer, and embrace the support of others to find strength and courage. Wilton emphasizes that the book does not offer superficial encouragement but speaks candidly about the realities of hardship while pointing toward hope in Christ. 'There is no candy coating in this book,' Wilton said. 'I wanted to tell the truth about what it looks like to walk through an unwanted season while holding tightly to God.'
Wilton's authenticity and transparency set Every Breath apart from many devotionals. His inspiration to write began more than fifty years ago when his tenth-grade English teacher recognized his gift for writing. Although he initially considered pursuing journalism, life took him in another direction. Now, after a career as a healthcare executive and a graduate of Marshall University, Wilton has devoted his retirement to writing, family, and ministry. He has been married to his wife, Sandy, for over forty years, and they have two sons, two daughters-in-love, and six grandchildren.
In crafting the devotional, Wilton draws on decades of personal experience and spiritual journey. He acknowledges that time has been his greatest challenge as a writer, but he finds inspiration through what he calls 'mental health and prayer walks.' 'Every time I step away and spend time with the Lord, He faithfully meets me there,' Wilton explained. He hopes readers come away from the book believing that God has not abandoned them and is using every step to shape them into who He created them to be.
Every Breath is published by Clay Bridges Press, a Houston-area hybrid publisher that helps authors edit, publish, and promote their books. For aspiring writers, Wilton offers simple advice: 'Do the work. Follow the prompting of your heart and the Holy Spirit. Write every day. You never know how God may use your words to encourage someone else.'
Ultimately, Every Breath serves as an invitation to trust God through every season of life, reminding readers that while they may not have chosen their journey, they can choose to walk it with confidence, knowing God is using every breath for a greater purpose.
