Canada Nickel's Crawford Project Secures Federal Approval, Paving the Way for Major Economic Impact

In a significant milestone for Canada's mining sector, Canada Nickel Company Inc. has received a positive Decision Statement from the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature for its Crawford Nickel Project. This approval, announced by Noble Mineral Exploration Inc., marks the first mining project to be approved under Canada's amended Impact Assessment Act since 2019. The project was referred to Canada's Major Projects Office and selected as one of the first to advance under Ontario's One Project, One Process framework.

The Crawford Nickel Project is estimated to contribute approximately $70 billion to Canada's GDP and support around 185,000 person-years of employment. This approval underscores the project's strategic importance in meeting the growing demand for nickel, a critical mineral used in electric vehicle batteries and stainless steel production. By streamlining the regulatory process, the federal government aims to accelerate the development of key mineral projects while ensuring environmental protection.

Noble Mineral Exploration Inc., which previously held the Crawford project before transferring it to Canada Nickel in 2019, congratulated Canada Nickel on this achievement. Noble CEO Vance White stated, "This development confirms the Company's vision in having transferred the Crawford Nickel Project to the team at Canada Nickel in 2019, and as a company we are proud to see Canada Nickel advance through this milestone. This is an extremely important development. It should also serve as a model for the development of other properties held by East Timmins Nickel Ltd., a company established between Noble and Canada Nickel in which Noble has a 20% interest."

Canada Nickel's success is expected to have ripple effects across the industry. The approval demonstrates the effectiveness of the One Project, One Process framework, which aims to reduce duplication between federal and provincial environmental assessments. This could encourage further investments in Canada's critical minerals sector, boosting the country's position in the global supply chain for battery metals. Moreover, the project's significant economic contributions are anticipated to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in the Timmins region and beyond.

Noble Mineral Exploration Inc. continues to hold shares of Canada Nickel and maintains a 20% interest in East Timmins Nickel Ltd., which holds other properties in the area. This strategic alignment positions Noble to benefit from the ongoing development of the Timmins mining camp. As the Crawford project moves forward, it sets a precedent for other mining projects seeking federal approval, potentially reducing timelines and increasing investment certainty in Canada's mining industry.
