The Dr. Wael Sakr Scholarship for Medical Students offers a one-time $1,000 award to a selected student who demonstrates academic commitment and a genuine interest in medicine. He joined Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1990, served as Chairman of its Department of Pathology from 2008 to 2022, and became Dean of the school in 2022. His research has focused extensively on prostate cancer, particularly racial disparities affecting African American men, and he has contributed to more than 200 peer-reviewed publications.
Eligible applicants must be currently enrolled undergraduates at accredited colleges or universities, on a pre-med track or pursuing a path toward an MD or DO. They must remain in good academic standing and submit a complete application, including a required essay, by the deadline.
