Eco Expo Asia 2026 Debuts ASEAN and Qinghai Pavilions, Spotlighting Green Tech Amid Rising ESG Confidence

Eco Expo Asia 2026, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, and co-organised by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, will run from 26 to 29 October at AsiaWorld-Expo. The 21st edition, themed "Connecting the World for a Sustainable Future," brings together over 340 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions, with first-time participants from Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. The debut of an ASEAN Pavilion and a Qinghai Pavilion underscores the Expo's expanding international footprint at a time when green transformation has shifted from policy aspiration to market rule.

The significance lies in the timing. HKTDC Associate Executive Director Silas Chu noted that China, the European Union, and many ASEAN economies are actively pursuing carbon-neutrality or net-zero targets, driving decarbonisation through regulations and industrial policies. As global demand for ESG and green solutions grows, the Expo serves as a platform to help enterprises capitalise on opportunities emerging from this transition. The presence of some 200 key officials and representatives from the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Belt and Road countries, and ASEAN further promotes cross-regional cooperation.

Corporate confidence in Hong Kong as an ESG hub is strengthening. The HKTDC released its "HKTDC ESG Index 2026," which rose to 67.3 from 64.2 last year, well above the neutral threshold of 50. The survey found that 93% of respondents have integrated ESG into business decision-making, while the share of businesses sourcing or selling ESG-related products and services jumped from 29% in 2025 to 46% in 2026. The HKTDC ESG Index 2026 reflects this momentum, signalling that ESG has evolved beyond compliance into a competitive advantage.

The Expo's four thematic areas—Green Energy in Motion, Frontier Green Tech, Building for a Greener City, and From Waste to Worth—showcase innovations with real-world impact. Under Frontier Green Tech, first-time exhibitor Stellerus Technology Limited will display MUSICO, the world's first lightweight, high-resolution greenhouse gas observatory, already deployed on China's Tiangong space station. In green building, Green Vigor Limited will exhibit a modular hydropower system that converts wasted hydraulic resources into electricity, while AEC GreenTech Innovations Limited brings a plastering and paint-spraying robot that works five times faster than manual labour.

Over 30 forums and seminars will gather more than 80 government officials, industry leaders, and business representatives from the Chinese Mainland, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, and other Belt and Road countries. The Eco Asia Conference will feature experts discussing extreme weather monitoring, green building development, and global climate finance trends. On Public Day, 29 October, free admission will invite the public to embrace green lifestyles through workshops and seminars.

For those planning to attend, free shuttle bus services will connect the fair venues, major hotels, and transport interchanges, with details available at https://www.hktdc.com/event/ecoexpoasia/tc/travel-to-fairground-awe. As Hong Kong aligns with national and regional green goals, Eco Expo Asia 2026 illustrates how the city is positioning itself as a hub for sustainable innovation and cross-border collaboration, with the HKTDC continuing to facilitate international exhibitions and conferences that drive the green economy forward.
