Energy Fuels Appoints Ross R. Bhappu as CEO, Signaling Strategic Shift in Critical Minerals Sector

Energy Fuels Inc. (NYSE American: UUUU) (TSX: EFR), a leading U.S. producer of uranium, rare earths and critical materials, announced that Ross R. Bhappu has been appointed chief executive officer, effective April 15, 2026. Bhappu, who has served as president since August 2025, brings more than 30 years of leadership experience spanning mining, critical minerals, finance and international resource development, and succeeds Mark S. Chalmers, who is retiring after more than eight years as CEO and will remain with the company as an exclusive uranium and rare earth consultant for two years.

This leadership change comes at a pivotal time for the critical minerals sector, as global demand for uranium and rare earth elements surges amid energy transition and national security priorities. Bhappu's extensive background in project development and finance is expected to accelerate Energy Fuels' strategic initiatives, including the expansion of its rare earth production and the development of medical isotope capabilities. The company owns the only fully licensed conventional uranium mill operating in the U.S. – the White Mesa Mill in Utah – where it also produces rare earth element products and evaluates medical isotope recovery for emerging cancer therapies.

Energy Fuels is also advancing three heavy mineral sands and rare earths projects: the Vara Mada Project in Madagascar, Bahia Project in Brazil, and Donald Project in Australia (through a joint venture with Astron Limited). These projects are critical to diversifying the global supply chain for rare earths, which are essential for electric vehicles, wind turbines, and defense applications. Bhappu's appointment signals a continued focus on becoming a vertically integrated critical materials supplier.

The transition also marks the end of an era under Chalmers, who led the company through its transformation from a pure uranium producer to a multi-commodity critical materials company. Under his leadership, Energy Fuels became the top U.S. producer of natural uranium concentrate and established a foothold in rare earths. Bhappu's experience in international resource development and finance positions him to navigate the complex geopolitical landscape and capital-intensive nature of the industry.

Investors and analysts will be watching for Bhappu's strategic priorities, which are likely to include advancing the company's rare earth separation capabilities and securing off-take agreements.
