GatherGrounds Resorts has acquired The Oaks Campground, a 155-acre property in Munith, Michigan, marking the start of a series of upgrades aimed at enhancing the visitor experience. The campground, located adjacent to the Waterloo State Recreation Area—the largest state park in Michigan's Lower Peninsula—offers direct access to extensive natural landscapes and outdoor activities. It is also eight minutes from the public boat ramp at Portage Lake, an all-sports lake popular for boating and water sports.
The property borders the Haehnle Bird Sanctuary, home to diverse bird species frequently sighted on the grounds, providing a unique nature immersion. Under new management, GatherGrounds Resorts plans to revitalize approximately 120 acres of wooded trails for mountain biking, golf cart rides, horseback riding, and hiking. These improvements aim to diversify recreational options across the picturesque landscape.
Upcoming enhancements include renovations to the beach area of the on-site swimming lake, with new lounge chairs and a sand volleyball court. A Wibit inflatable waterpark will be installed, creating a family-friendly attraction suitable for all ages. The campground also features a second lake dedicated solely to fishing, equipped with multiple docks. Existing amenities include an on-site camp store offering firewood, ice, and scooped ice cream, as well as two spacious bathhouses with showers and laundry facilities.
GatherGrounds Resorts intends to introduce more modern, family-oriented amenities and expand weekend activities with a comprehensive schedule of family-friendly events aimed at building community connections. As planning and development proceed, the company will provide regular updates to guests and the local community. The Oaks Campground welcomes returning campers and new visitors starting with the 2026 season. For more information, visit GatherGrounds Resorts - The Oaks Campground.
