GeoVax to Present Next-Generation MVA Vaccine Advances at World Vaccine Congress Europe 2026

GeoVax Labs, Inc. (Nasdaq: GOVX) will present its latest advancements in Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA) vaccine technology at the World Vaccine Congress Europe 2026, taking place October 19–22 at the RAI Amsterdam. The presentation, titled “Revolutionizing MVA – Single Dose and Continuous Cell-Line Manufacturing,” will be delivered by Senthil Ranganathan, PhD, Vice President of Technical Development and CMC Operations, on Monday, October 19 at 11:00 a.m. The announcement, made via NEWMEDIAWIRE, highlights two complementary objectives that could significantly improve how MVA-based vaccines are administered and produced.

MVA has long been recognized as a well-characterized vaccine platform, but its broader deployment has been limited by multi-dose regimens and manufacturing processes that rely on primary avian cells. GeoVax’s next-generation MVA-X technology aims to overcome the first challenge by enabling protective immunity after a single administration. Preclinical studies have shown that a single dose of MVA-X achieved protective efficacy comparable to a traditional two-dose MVA regimen in a murine orthopoxvirus challenge model, with protection maintained through Day 150. This could simplify vaccination logistics and accelerate deployment during outbreaks or public health emergencies.

In parallel, GeoVax is advancing a continuous cell-line manufacturing approach using the AGE1.CR.pIX avian cell line as an alternative to traditional chicken embryo fibroblast (CEF)-based production. The company has demonstrated proof-of-concept for the upstream process, and the downstream process is in development to support production at the 200-liter scale, with a pathway toward 500 liters and beyond. This method is designed to enable scalable, reproducible manufacturing, reduce reliance on primary-cell supply chains, and facilitate technology transfer. Such flexibility could be critical for rapidly increasing MVA vaccine production in response to emerging infectious diseases or biodefense needs.

Together, these advances represent a potential evolution of the MVA platform—from multi-dose vaccination and primary-cell manufacturing toward single-dose immunization supported by scalable continuous cell-line production. David A. Dodd, Chairman and CEO of GeoVax, noted that the work addresses both sides of the equation: simplifying vaccination while establishing a manufacturing platform capable of supporting broader and more responsive vaccine supply. He added that the presentation at the World Vaccine Congress Europe offers an opportunity to share progress with the global vaccine community, with implications for outbreak response, pandemic preparedness, biodefense, strategic stockpiling, and expanded global access.

GeoVax’s priority program is GEO-MVA, an MVA-based vaccine targeting mpox and smallpox, which is advancing under an expedited regulatory pathway with plans to initiate a pivotal Phase 3 trial in the second half of 2026. The company is also developing Gedeptin® for oncology. For more information, visit www.geovax.com.
