Green SM has officially launched its all-electric taxi service in Los Angeles, California, marking the Vietnamese mobility brand's first entry into North America and its ninth global market. The move, announced via Media OutReach Newswire, positions Green SM in one of the world's most competitive transportation markets and underscores the growing global demand for zero-emission ride-hailing options.
Starting October 13, customers in Los Angeles can book rides through the Green SM app, by calling the company's hotline, or by hailing a vehicle on the street. The service will cover a wide range of mobility needs, from everyday trips and longer journeys to airport transfers. This expansion matters because it introduces a fully electric fleet to a city known for its car culture and persistent air quality challenges, offering residents a practical alternative to gasoline-powered taxis and ride-hailing services.
Green SM operates a 100% all-electric fleet of VinFast vehicles, featuring spacious, smooth, and modern VinFast VF 8 models. The company emphasizes its 5 Good Promises: Good Cars, Good Drivers, Good Price, Good Experience, and Good for the Environment. Drivers are carefully selected and thoroughly trained, and fare information is transparent. To celebrate the launch, new customers who sign up will receive 50% off fares, up to USD 12 per ride, on their first five trips. Additionally, customers can enjoy a complimentary Green Pass membership, which includes 10 discount vouchers per month, each offering 30% off fares, up to USD 10 per ride.
Ms. Hoang Thanh Hang, CEO of Green SM in the U.S., said, "The United States represents an important milestone in Green SM's growth journey. We are not simply expanding into a new market. We aim to build trust with customers, drivers and local communities, one journey at a time. Our experience across international markets has shown us that the future of electric mobility is not defined by an all-electric fleet alone. It also depends on service quality, well-trained and reliable drivers, and genuine care in every customer interaction."
The implications of this launch extend beyond transportation. Green SM plans to gradually build its local team, strengthen operational capabilities, and recruit and train local drivers. This not only creates new employment opportunities but also supports Los Angeles' broader transition toward greener mobility. As cities worldwide grapple with climate goals, Green SM's entry could pressure competitors to accelerate their own electrification efforts.
Founded in Vietnam in 2023, Green SM currently operates across Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Kazakhstan, Denmark, and the Netherlands. The company has completed approximately 850 million rides, covering nearly 6 billion kilometers, and has helped reduce more than 800,000 tons of CO₂ emissions—equivalent to the carbon absorbed by approximately 36 million trees. Its U.S. presence combines VinFast's strengths in all-electric vehicles with Green SM's operational expertise, offering customers a zero-emission mobility option.
From Los Angeles, Green SM will continue investing in its fleet, technology, driver team, and service quality, putting customer experience at the heart of its sustainable growth in the U.S. and international markets. This launch signals that electric ride-hailing is no longer a niche experiment but a viable, scalable business model—one that could reshape urban transportation across North America.
