Greenland Energy Targets Jameson Land Basin with Two-Well Drilling Program

Greenland Energy (NASDAQ: GLND) is moving forward with a two-well drilling program in the Jameson Land Basin, one of the world's largest underexplored onshore hydrocarbon regions. Under an agreement with 80 Mile, the company will fully fund the program, earning a 70% interest in the project while 80 Mile retains 30%. The basin, spanning more than 8,400 square kilometers, has attracted decades of industry attention due to its potential resource scale, though it has never produced a commercial discovery.

The company has engaged Halliburton to provide consulting services, logistics planning, and operational support, while additional agreements with Stampede Drilling are expected to enhance drilling capabilities. These partnerships aim to leverage advanced technologies and expertise for Arctic operations, positioning Greenland Energy to efficiently evaluate the basin's potential.

The Jameson Land Basin presents significant geological and operational challenges. Historical studies dating back to the 1970s have not resulted in commercial discoveries, and a 2008 USGS report indicated less than a 10% chance of containing a technically recoverable hydrocarbon accumulation. Drilling in this remote Arctic location involves extreme climate, harsh weather, limited daylight, and no existing infrastructure, with estimated well costs of $40 million for the first well and $20 million for subsequent wells.

Greenland Energy faces regulatory and political risks, including a 2021 drilling moratorium in Greenland, though its licenses are grandfathered. Future regulatory changes could jeopardize operations. The company also confronts financial risks, requiring substantial funding beyond current resources to complete the drilling program. Commodity price volatility, energy transition trends, and the potential for declining oil demand add further uncertainty.

Despite these risks, the company believes the basin's potential justifies the investment. The forward-looking statements in the company's filings highlight that actual results may differ materially from expectations due to exploration, operational, regulatory, and financial factors. Greenland Energy aims to create a publicly traded platform for Arctic energy development, focusing on responsible hydrocarbon resource development in Greenland.
