Greenland Mines Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRML) has finalized the acquisition of the Sarfartoq Nd-Pr Rare Earths Project in southwest Greenland, a move that could significantly impact the global supply chain for neodymium and praseodymium (NdPr) oxides, critical components in permanent magnets used in electric vehicles and wind turbines. The transaction, valued at $20 million in cash and $15 million in securities, closed on September 1, 2026, as announced by the company.

The Sarfartoq project is notable for its planned annual NdPr oxide production, which would represent approximately 34% of all NdPr oxide refined outside China at 2025 consumption levels during each of the project's nine scheduled operating years. This statistic underscores the project's potential to alleviate the current concentration of rare earth processing in China, a concern for many Western nations and industries seeking supply chain diversification. The project's independent Initial Assessment, based solely on the ST1 deposit, estimates a high-case pre-tax net present value (NPV) of approximately $2.05 billion and a pre-tax internal rate of return (IRR) of 118.6%, including Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resources.

With the acquisition complete, Greenland Mines is set to advance the Sarfartoq project toward a Pre-Feasibility Study. The company plans to conduct targeted infill drilling, pilot-scale metallurgical test work, mine engineering planning, environmental and social baseline studies, and drone-based magnetic surveys. These activities are critical for refining the project's economic and technical viability and for meeting the rigorous standards required for a pre-feasibility assessment.

In a strategic move, Neo Performance Materials (TSX: NEO) has become a shareholder in Greenland Mines through the transaction and retains offtake rights for up to 60% of future Sarfartoq ore or mineral concentrate production. This offtake agreement is significant because it secures a market for the project's output and ties it to Neo's Silmet rare earth separation facility in Estonia, which is one of the few rare earth processing facilities outside China. This partnership not only provides Greenland Mines with a guaranteed customer but also strengthens the non-Chinese rare earth supply chain.

The acquisition aligns with Greenland Mines' broader strategy of building a multi-asset platform with exposure to rare earth magnet materials, precious metals, and selected midstream processing opportunities. The company is also advancing its North Atlantic Critical Metals Corridor vision, which aims to link Greenland's resources with allied downstream jurisdictions and industrial infrastructure. This vision is particularly relevant as governments and companies worldwide seek to reduce their dependence on Chinese rare earth exports, which have been subject to export controls and geopolitical tensions.

The implications of this acquisition extend beyond Greenland Mines.
