HeartBeam Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAT) announced it has received a new U.S. patent that expands the capabilities of its credit card-sized, cable-free ECG device to include acoustic sensing and thoracic impedance measurement. The patent, which covers the integration of these technologies into the existing form factor, is designed to support future applications in structural heart disease and heart failure monitoring. By enabling the device to function as a digital stethoscope and assess fluid accumulation in the chest, the innovation could allow for earlier detection of heart valve abnormalities and fluid congestion in heart failure patients through a portable, patient-operated device.
The company stated that the patent advances its strategy of developing a multi-modal ambulatory cardiac sensing platform. With this addition, HeartBeam’s global patent portfolio now includes 26 issued patents covering signal acquisition, ECG synthesis algorithms, diagnostic applications, and device hardware. The patent strengthens the company’s intellectual property position and supports its goal of transforming cardiac care by providing actionable heart intelligence outside of medical facilities.
HeartBeam’s platform technology is designed for portable devices that can collect ECG signals in 3D from three non-coplanar directions and synthesize them into a 12-lead ECG. The company’s 3D ECG technology received FDA clearance for arrhythmia assessment in December 2024, and its 12-lead ECG synthesis software received clearance in December 2025. The new patent aligns with HeartBeam’s mission to enable physicians to identify cardiac health trends and acute conditions, directing patients to appropriate care wherever they are.
