HITN Townhall Tackles Preschool Screen Time for Hispanic Families

HITN Media, through its preschool streaming platform Edye and wellness brand Vida y Salud, is addressing one of the most pressing challenges of modern parenting: the relationship between preschoolers and electronic devices. The Spanish-language townhall Los niños y el tiempo en pantalla (Children and Screen Time) airs on Sunday, September 13 at 8:00 pm EDT/PDT on HITN TV and will be available for free on HITNGO, ensuring families can access it whenever needed.

Hosted by journalist Nathalia Ortiz, the program features developmental and behavioral pediatrician Dr. Nidsy Mejía Roque and pediatric neuropsychologist Dr. Fernanda Lucchese-Lobato. It also includes insights from Dr. Thresia Gambon, spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Matías Dodel, PhD, professor at the Catholic University of Uruguay, and Lina Acosta Sandaal, a development expert and founder of Stop Parenting Alone. Parenting blogger Mariela Irala conducted on-the-ground surveys to capture real-world perspectives.

The townhall arrives at a critical moment. As Guillermo Sierra, EVP and Head at HITN Media, explains, “This issue is urgent and highly relevant to our Latino audiences: the trends we see in the United States often set the tone globally, and parents need to be empowered with clear, evidence-based information that is guilt free.” Both Vida y Salud and Edye follow AAP recommendations, promoting a healthy relationship with technology that prioritizes guidance, context, and content quality—without turning screens into a constant source of conflict.

Rather than simply condemning screen time, the program poses nuanced questions: Is it just about screen time, or does content matter too? How do viewing habits and whether children are alone or accompanied shape their experience? What activities and relationships get displaced? When should adults step in, and how can limits be set without turning technology into a battleground? At the heart of the discussion are the AAP digital media guidelines, which encourage reflecting on the quality and context of the digital experience, not just the number of minutes.

This initiative matters because it shifts the conversation from parental guilt to practical empowerment. Hispanic families, often underserved in English-language media, gain access to trusted, culturally relevant guidance in Spanish. The program emphasizes that it’s not about being perfect parents, but about being present, staying informed, and building a healthier relationship with technology—for both children and adults. As Sierra adds, “We want to lead the movement, initiate a critically important conversation, and empower parents to manage this challenge for the benefit of their children.”

This is the first of many initiatives HITN will roll out on this topic. Vida y Salud, available at VidaySalud.com and as a programming block on HITN TV, offers articles, videos, and medical resources. Edye, a Spanish-language preschool platform accessible at edye.com, provides quality entertainment and evidence-based guidance. Together, they support Spanish-speaking families in navigating the digital landscape with confidence and clarity.
