Hong Kong-Led GoGlobal Task Force Delegation Heads to Canada to Bridge Mainland Enterprises with Global Markets

Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), a member of the Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global (GoGlobal Task Force), will lead a delegation on a seven-day visit to Canada starting September 20 to support Mainland enterprises in expanding their global business. The mission, one of several outbound initiatives supervised by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, will be headed by Ms Loretta Lee, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK. It will focus on two strategic sectors: sustainability and life and health sciences.

The delegation, comprising Chinese Mainland companies, will visit Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. The visit aims to help these enterprises understand the local ecosystems and precisely align their go-global needs, while also attracting Canadian businesses in these sectors to invest in Hong Kong. According to Ms Lee, "Canada is globally recognised for its exceptional research talent, clean technology leadership, and established life sciences ecosystem. As more Mainland green technology and life and health sciences enterprises pursue international growth through Hong Kong, they bring not only capital and access to one of the world's largest markets, but also serve as ideal partners for Canadian companies seeking to explore Asia and beyond. We are keen to build fresh synergies with Canadian businesses to strengthen innovation, collaboration, and investment flows."

The implications of this visit are significant. For Mainland enterprises, Canada offers a gateway to advanced research and development, particularly in clean technology and life sciences, which are critical for sustainable growth. By facilitating their expansion, Hong Kong reinforces its role as a super-connector between the Chinese Mainland and global markets. This aligns with broader efforts to internationalise Chinese companies and diversify their operations. For Canadian businesses, the delegation presents an opportunity to tap into Asian markets through Hong Kong, leveraging the city's financial infrastructure and business-friendly environment. The visit could lead to joint ventures, technology transfers, and increased investment flows, benefiting both economies.

During the visit, the delegation will meet with local institutions, chambers of commerce, and industry associations. They will also hold targeted discussions with leading Canadian green tech and healthcare enterprises, visit universities and research parks, and take part in sector-specific roundtables and business networking sessions. These activities are designed to foster collaboration and identify concrete opportunities for partnership. The focus on sustainability and life sciences reflects global priorities, as countries strive to address climate change and improve public health. By connecting Mainland and Canadian stakeholders, the mission supports innovation and economic growth in these critical areas.

The GoGlobal Task Force's efforts underscore Hong Kong's commitment to supporting Mainland enterprises in navigating international markets. As geopolitical and economic dynamics evolve, such missions help build resilient supply chains and diversify trade relationships. The outcomes of this visit could set a precedent for future collaborations in other sectors and regions. For more information about InvestHK and its initiatives, visit InvestHK.
