Hong Kong Optical Fair Concludes with 12,000 Buyers, Spotlight on Smart Tech and Sustainability

The 33rd Hong Kong International Optical Fair, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and co-organized by the Hong Kong Optical Manufacturers Association (HKOMA), concluded successfully on November 7, 2025. The three-day event attracted approximately 12,000 buyers from 92 countries and regions, reinforcing its role as a premier sourcing platform for the global eyewear industry. Buyers from outside Hong Kong primarily came from the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, India, Japan, Korea, the US, and ASEAN countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.

The fair, themed "Bright Eyes • New Horizons," showcased contemporary products aligned with key market trends: "smart technology," "sustainability," "silver healthcare," and "functionality & design." Exhibitors integrated artificial intelligence and eco-friendly materials to blend functionality and aesthetics, catering to diverse market needs. The spotlighted "Brand Name Gallery" featured over 200 renowned brands, including BIG HORN and P+US from Hong Kong, MINIMA from France, STEPPER from Germany, and new participants such as SUEEY.MASADA from the Chinese Mainland.

Smart technology emerged as a major focus. Shenzhen MUEDO Technology Co., Ltd. presented its U10 Dual-Mode Smart Reading Glasses, featuring auto-focusing lenses and Hi-Fi stereo sound targeting the silver market. Helen Zhuang, Overseas Sales Manager, noted inquiries from buyers in Italy, Germany, the US, and India, and is negotiating a collaboration with an Italian buyer for an expected order value of US$500,000. Sustainability also took center stage, with many brands launching eco-friendly glasses made from recycled materials. Hong Kong exhibitor Winky International Limited offered biodegradable sunglasses and optical frames. Founder Kevin Ching reported connecting with 20 buyers from Indonesia, Vietnam, South Africa, and the Chinese Mainland, including a potential US$1 million order from an Israeli agent with 260 retail points.

Prominent international buyers attended, including representatives from the Mondottica Group (Australia), Brazil's VISTA IMPORT, France's Kering Eyewear, Germany's Fielmann Group, UK's Specsavers, India's Lenskart, Indonesia's Grand Optik, Singapore's Capitol Optical, and the US's Euro Vision International. Caitlin Northup, Vice President of Operations for US-based Eyenavision, said they placed onsite orders totaling US$500,000 with two exhibitors from the Chinese Mainland. Optisero, S.L. from Spain, with a 30-year history, has attended the fair for 20 years; Joint Administrator Antonia Rivas stated their annual sourcing budget for suppliers met at the fair is around EUR2 million.

The 25th Hong Kong Eyewear Design Competition, themed "Blending Tradition and Technology," showcased local design talents. The Open Group champion, "Be With You" by Fung Wai-kuen, automatically alerts family via Bluetooth when the wearer falls or presses an emergency button, reducing accident risks for the elderly. The Student Group winner, "Unique Perspectives" by Shum Chui-shan, incorporates traditional Chinese butterfly symbols with tie-dye techniques and a detachable structure.

The fair adopted the EXHIBITION+ hybrid model, integrating online and offline elements. Exhibitors and buyers can connect via the Click2Match platform until November 14. During the event, attendees used the Scan2Match function on the HKTDC Marketplace App to bookmark suppliers and access product details. The fair's success underscores its importance in fostering collaboration and driving innovation in the eyewear industry.
