The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will host the fifth International Healthcare Week from 11 to 31 May, positioning Hong Kong as a premier medical technology and investment hub. The event includes the sixth Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) on 11-12 May and the 17th Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair (Medical Fair) from 11-13 May at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Sophia Chong, Executive Director of the HKTDC, emphasized that Hong Kong's role as an international financial centre and its unique bridging position between Mainland China and the world make it ideal for medical innovation. The events align with the National 15th Five-Year Plan, focusing on biopharmaceuticals, AI-empowered healthcare, the silver economy, and traditional Chinese medicine modernization.
The ASGH, themed “Fuelling Healthcare Breakthroughs,” will feature Nobel laureate Professor Michael Levitt and other global experts. Plenary sessions will address pandemic preparedness and healthcare breakthroughs, with speakers including Professor Lo Chung-mau, Secretary of Health of the HKSAR, and leaders from GSK, JP Morgan, and Sino Biopharmaceutical. The summit will also include sessions on AI in healthcare, silver economy, and traditional Chinese medicine innovation.
The Medical Fair will gather 300 exhibitors from 10 countries, showcasing MedTech, GeronTech, and preventive healthcare innovations. Highlights include a smart health wearable integrating Chinese and Western medicine, an AR surgical platform for orthopaedic surgeons, and a world-first smart knee brace using AI. The fair will adopt an “EXHIBITION+” hybrid model, with physical and online business matching via Click2Match.
