For a gold developer, a rising gold price means little without a credible timeline to production. Lahontan Gold Corp. (TSX.V: LG) (OTCQB: LGCXF) is addressing that gap by attaching a date to its plans: 2027 construction at its past-producing Santa Fe Mine in Nevada’s Walker Lane. In a recent CEO.CA interview, founder and CEO Kimberly Ann walked through the steps that keep that target on track, according to a recent announcement disseminated on behalf of Lahontan Gold Corp. (TSX.V: LG) (OTCQB: LGCXF).
The company is advancing four gold and silver projects in the Walker Lane, led by the planned restart of Santa Fe. Permitting work has been under way for three and a half years, and an updated preliminary economic assessment is due imminently. Those are the operational markers that underpin the 2027 construction goal.
Lahontan also recently announced a definitive agreement to acquire Emergent Metals. The deal would give Lahontan 100% of West Santa Fe, eliminate approximately $1.73 million in future payments, and end 1% net smelter return royalties on West Santa Fe and 27 York claims at Santa Fe. It also adds the adjoining New York Canyon project. Together, these changes simplify the company’s ownership structure and remove royalty obligations, which can affect project economics and future cash flow.
The timing of the announcement matters because gold is holding at historically high levels while trading well off its peak. Spot gold was at $4,183.13 an ounce in early October, after hitting what CNBC reported as a two-month low. Gold’s record remains the $5,597.23 reached on January 29, 2026. For developers still short of production, the differentiator is not the metal price alone but the ability to say when construction will begin. Lahontan is using its permitting progress and the pending Emergent acquisition to make that case.
