LION Smart Honored with TOP 100 Seal for Innovation Excellence

LION Smart, a company of the LION E-Mobility Group, has been awarded the TOP 100 Seal 2026, placing it among Germany's most innovative mid-sized businesses. The award, based on a rigorous scientific selection process, will be presented at the German SME Summit on June 26 in Heidelberg by former German Federal President Christian Wulff, who serves as mentor to the TOP 100 innovation competition.

The TOP 100 selection process, led by innovation researcher Professor Nikolaus Franke and his team, evaluates companies across five categories: innovation-oriented top management, innovation climate, innovation processes and organisation, external orientation/open innovation, and innovation success. These categories are assessed through more than 100 criteria, based on a comprehensive online questionnaire completed by participating companies. “At TOP 100, we analyse thoroughly and comprehensively how innovation-driven the applicants are. Those that are exceptionally well positioned receive confirmation in the form of the TOP 100 Seal,” said Professor Franke.

LION Smart operates in the field of intelligent energy storage and battery solutions, known for modular, scalable storage systems for industrial, grid, and mobility applications. The company pursues a consistently innovation-driven approach from concept through market launch. “For us, innovation is not a one-off project, but a permanent part of our day-to-day work and our corporate culture,” said Dr. Joachim Damasky, Managing Partner of LION Smart. “The TOP 100 award confirms that we are setting the right course not only technologically, but also organisationally and strategically.” A key success factor is the close integration of research, development, and customer requirements, ensuring new solutions are developed with real-world applications and future market needs in mind.

The TOP 100 Seal is awarded in three size categories: up to 50 employees, 51 to 200 employees, and more than 200 employees. In the current, 33rd round, 356 mid-sized companies applied, with 282 successful. A maximum of 100 companies can be recognized in each size category. The top innovators will gather on June 26 at the Heidelberg Congress Center for the German SME Summit, where Christian Wulff will personally congratulate them.

Since 1993, compamedia has awarded the TOP 100 Seal for outstanding innovative strength. The scientific direction has been led by Professor Franke since 2002. Project partners include the Fraunhofer Society and the SME association BVMW. More information is available at www.top100.de.
