MAX Power Mining Corp. (CSE: MAXX; OTC: MAXXF; FRANKFURT: 89N) has announced a significant expansion of its natural hydrogen permit holdings in Saskatchewan, acquiring provincial permits covering an additional 660,263 acres (2,672 square kilometers) across south-central Saskatchewan. This increases the company's total permitted holdings by more than 50% to approximately 2 million acres across 12 projects, positioning MAX Power as a dominant player in the nascent natural hydrogen industry in Canada.
The expansion includes the newly designated Aurora Project, a 628-square-kilometer area adjoining the company's existing Lawson project. Together, these form a contiguous 90-kilometer corridor that the company believes holds potential for multiple natural hydrogen discoveries and commercialization pathways. The corridor is strategically located near highway, rail, heavy industry, and emerging artificial intelligence infrastructure, which could facilitate future development and distribution of hydrogen.
In addition to the Aurora Project, MAX Power added the Ogema and Kyle projects, expanded the Grasslands Project through the Fox Valley target area, and secured additional permits at Lawson, Radville, and Tribune. The company continues commercial-validation drilling at Lawson Complex #1, which is recognized as Canada's first confirmed subsurface natural hydrogen system, with data validated by three independent labs. Meanwhile, MAX Power and independent consultant GLJ Ltd. are reviewing data from the newly permitted areas to assess their potential.
The importance of this announcement lies in the growing recognition of natural hydrogen as a potential clean energy source. Unlike hydrogen produced from fossil fuels or electrolysis, natural hydrogen (often called white or gold hydrogen) is naturally occurring in geological formations and could offer a low-cost, low-carbon alternative. Saskatchewan's geological settings, particularly the Williston Basin, have shown promise for natural hydrogen accumulations, and MAX Power's extensive land position positions it to be a key explorer in this emerging sector.
MAX Power is committed to responsible exploration and development practices that prioritize environmental stewardship, meaningful community engagement, and strong corporate governance. The company's U.S. subsidiary also holds a portfolio of critical mineral properties, including the Willcox Playa Lithium Project in southeast Arizona, where a 2024 diamond drilling discovery was made.
