Medios AG has announced the closure of its Aschaffenburg facility, a wholly owned subsidiary, as part of a strategic optimization of its manufacturing network. The company is consolidating patient-specific manufacturing at its remaining locations across Germany, citing sustained margin pressure in the business of patient-specific formulations, particularly due to price regulatory adjustments. Production has already been relocated, and supplies to pharmacies and hospitals are guaranteed, the company said.
The Aschaffenburg site accounted for approximately 10% of the Medios Group’s German manufacturing production volume. The measure affects 32 employees, for whom Medios is seeking to provide fair compensation. The site had been operating at below-average profitability amid declining capacity utilization, making continued economic operation unfeasible. Structural renovation work required at the site accelerated the decision.
The closure is part of Medios’ Operational Excellence Program, which aims to sustainably strengthen profitability. Thomas Meier, CEO of Medios AG, stated: “With a view to ensuring a reliable supply for our customers and maintaining capacity utilization at all sites, we are now optimizing our successful regional presence strategy and consistently developing it further. With Mannheim and Stuttgart, we have two high-performing Medios sites in southern Germany, ensuring that a reliable supply is maintained.”
Medios operates a network of six GMP manufacturing facilities in Germany for patient-specific therapies. GMP, or Good Manufacturing Practice, entails mandatory production standards and validated quality management. The company’s decision reflects broader industry challenges, as price regulatory adjustments continue to squeeze margins in the specialty pharmaceutical sector.

The company is Germany’s first listed specialty pharmaceutical company, with shares (ISIN: DE000A1MMCC8) listed on the regulated market of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (Prime Standard) and included in the SDAX selection index.
