Two paintings by artist Pam Skehan, 'Woman in Waiting' and 'Tipping Point,' currently displayed at Wine Art Gallery, have been selected for the Louisiana Contemporary exhibition at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art. The exhibition, presented by The Helis Foundation, marks its 15th anniversary this year, showcasing the depth of artistic talent across Louisiana.
Juror Sarah Jones, Lulu C. and Anthony W. Wang Head of Live Arts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, chose 50 works by 45 artists from over 1,786 submissions. The inclusion of Skehan's pieces underscores the caliber of artists emerging from the region. The exhibition runs from August 1, 2026, to February 14, 2027, at the Ogden Museum, located at https://ogdenmuseum.org/exhibition/louisiana-contemporary-2018/.
Since its launch in 2012, Louisiana Contemporary has featured work by more than 650 artists, establishing itself as a significant event on the national arts calendar. The exhibition recognizes and celebrates the breadth of creative voices emerging from New Orleans and arts communities throughout the state. This year's selection by a Met Museum curator adds prestige and highlights the national relevance of Louisiana's art scene.
Pam Skehan's paintings are currently on view at Wine Art Gallery, which is dedicated to supporting emerging artists while honoring New Orleans' unique history. The gallery actively seeks local talent and international artists, with over 80% of its represented artists being female or underrepresented. Wine Art Gallery is located on Gallery Row in the Arts District of New Orleans, a cultural hub anchored by Michelin-starred restaurants Emeril's and Peche.
The selection of Skehan's works for the Louisiana Contemporary exhibition not only recognizes her individual talent but also reflects the broader vitality of artistic practice across the state. The exhibition provides a platform for artists to gain visibility and contribute to the ongoing dialogue about contemporary art in the South.
