Powermax Minerals Inc. (CSE: PMAX) (OTCQB: PWMXF), a Canadian mineral exploration company focused on rare earth element projects in North America, has entered into a three-year option agreement with Gravel Ridge Resources Ltd. and 1544230 Ontario Inc. to acquire a 100% interest in the Melba North property. The deal, announced via Powermax Minerals Inc. (CSE: PMAX) (OTCQB: PWMXF), adds a strategically important land position adjacent to the company’s existing Hopkins rare earth element (REE) property in the Clay-Howells townships area of northern Ontario.
The Melba North property consists of 10 unpatented mining claims comprising 160 cells and covering approximately 3,360 hectares. Both Melba North and Hopkins are underlain by the Clay-Howells Alkalic Rock Complex, a Late Precambrian alkalic intrusion that is interpreted as a center characterized by light rare earth element (LREE)-dominant, magnetite-associated and carbonatite-related REE mineralization. This geological setting is significant because carbonatite-related systems are a primary source of global rare earth supply, and the presence of LREE-dominant mineralization suggests potential for economically important rare earth elements such as neodymium and praseodymium, which are critical for magnets used in electric vehicles and wind turbines.
A 2025 assessment report on the Clay-Howells claim, which included claims listed on the Melba North option schedule, documented 49 samples that returned more than 0.17% total rare earth element oxides (TREO). While this concentration is relatively low compared to some advanced projects, it confirms the presence of rare earth mineralization in the area and provides a valuable vector for further exploration. Powermax has also conducted a desktop study on the Hopkins property, identifying priority areas for future field validation; however, the company notes that mineralization continuity between the two sites has not yet been established, meaning further work is needed to determine whether the mineralization extends across the properties.
The option agreement grants Powermax the right to acquire full ownership of Melba North over three years, consolidating its land position in a prospective rare earth district. For investors, this announcement matters because it demonstrates the company’s proactive strategy to expand its footprint in a region with known REE mineralization at a time when global demand for rare earth elements is rising due to the energy transition. The addition of Melba North could enhance the scale and potential of Powermax’s exploration portfolio, though the lack of established continuity means the economic significance remains to be proven through future exploration.
