Quantum BioPharma (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) announced that patient enrollment in its collaborative multiple sclerosis (MS) imaging study with Massachusetts General Hospital has reached the halfway mark. Preliminary imaging data from the study show encouraging signal in acute MS lesions and potential sensitivity to gray matter lesions, which could enhance the development of MS therapies including the company's investigational candidate Lucid-MS.
The study is evaluating a novel PET imaging technique using the [¹⁸F]3F4AP tracer to directly assess demyelination. This technique could provide a more precise method for monitoring disease progression and treatment response in MS patients. Quantum BioPharma submitted an Investigational New Drug (IND) application for a Phase 2 trial of Lucid-MS to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in March 2026. The imaging study results may support the clinical development of Lucid-MS, which has shown the ability to prevent and reverse myelin degradation in preclinical models.
Lucid-MS is a patented new chemical entity owned by Quantum's wholly owned subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc. The compound targets the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis by addressing myelin degradation, a key pathological feature of the disease. The midpoint enrollment milestone in the imaging study represents progress in validating the PET imaging technique as a potential biomarker for demyelination.
The collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital, a leading research institution, underscores the scientific rigor behind the study. The imaging technique using the [¹⁸F]3F4AP tracer could offer advantages over current imaging methods by directly visualizing demyelination, which may improve the assessment of MS lesions, including those in gray matter that are often difficult to detect.
Quantum BioPharma is dedicated to building a portfolio of innovative assets and biotech solutions for treating challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders and alcohol misuse disorders. The company also holds a 19.84% stake in Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., which markets the OTC product UNBUZZD, and is entitled to royalty payments from sales of the product.
