Picky Global, the South Korean company known for its PICKYPIC compact photobooths, has launched a new product that could change how small businesses offer photo experiences. The Receipt Photobooth, now seeking funding on Kickstarter, is a 12-inch-tall device that prints black-and-white photos on ordinary thermal receipt paper in about one second. This innovation addresses a key limitation of traditional photobooths: the need for dedicated floor space and expensive dye-sublimation ink. By shrinking the photobooth to a countertop appliance, Picky Global aims to bring photo experiences to cafés, retail stores, pop-up shops, and event venues where full-sized booths simply do not fit.
The significance of this launch lies in its potential to democratize photo booth access for small businesses. Traditional photobooths require significant floor space and ongoing ink costs, making them impractical for many small venues. Receipt Photobooth eliminates both barriers. It uses widely available thermal receipt paper, with a single roll producing approximately 500 prints, and requires no ink cartridges. Setup only needs a power outlet and Wi-Fi, allowing the device to sit on a shelf or counter. This compact footprint means businesses can turn previously unused space into a revenue-generating or engagement-driving attraction. As Young Roung Lee, CEO of Picky Global, explained, the goal was to create something that could turn a small, previously unused space into a photo experience.
Beyond hardware, Receipt Photobooth is designed as a customer engagement tool. Each print includes a QR code that guests can scan to download the original full-color digital image to their smartphones, combining a physical keepsake with a digital shareable. The system ships with 20 default frame templates and supports custom frames for branding, artwork, or event designs. Operators can add printed messages such as daily fortunes or promotions, and guests can personalize photos with drawings or stickers. An optional survey can be integrated into the shooting flow, giving businesses a simple way to collect feedback and engagement data. These features position the booth as more than a camera and printer; it becomes a marketing and data collection platform.
Picky Global is not a newcomer to the photobooth market. The company has been designing, manufacturing, and operating photobooths in South Korea for three years, with more than 200 PICKYPIC booths currently operating across cafés, retail stores, bars, and event spaces nationwide. It has also exported to 11 international markets, including the United States, Canada, France, Denmark, Luxembourg, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Qatar, and Kuwait. This operating experience informed the development of Receipt Photobooth, with the company redesigning the internal structure, power system, and software for a compact format suitable for international use.
The global Kickstarter campaign for Receipt Photobooth launches September 22, 2026, at 9 AM ET, featuring both the acrylic Urban model and the wooden Modern model. The Urban model measures 190 × 230 × 316 mm and comes in five colors, while the Modern model measures 290 × 290 × 310 mm. Both weigh approximately 5 kg. Limited Launch Day rewards are available to early backers. For businesses seeking to add a photo experience without sacrificing floor space or dealing with ink, the Receipt Photobooth represents a compelling new option.
