Reservoir Acquires Contain, Bolstering Venture Platform for AgTech Startups

Reservoir, an agricultural innovation center and venture capital fund, announced the acquisition of Contain, Inc., an agriculture finance and data platform, in a move that expands its value creation model for startups. The transaction, announced on June 22, 2026, marks Reservoir’s first acquisition and brings Nicola Kerslake on board as general partner. Kerslake will chair Reservoir VC's investment committee and lead due diligence and underwriting functions. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

By integrating Contain’s marketplace, underwriting, financing experience, and market intelligence capabilities, Reservoir aims to accelerate the transition of agtech startups from pilot to commercial scale. This acquisition adds a new layer to Reservoir’s support system, which already includes on-farm robotics innovation centers known as Reservoir Farms. These facilities, starting in the Salinas Valley and expanding to other regions across California and the American West, provide startups with R&D space, hands-on grower input, and early-stage capital.

Reservoir focuses on startups solving real problems in high-value crops and the rugged physical AI stack. The acquisition of Contain strengthens its ability to provide financial tools and data analytics that are critical for startups navigating the complexities of agricultural markets. Nicola Kerslake’s experience is expected to enhance Reservoir’s investment committee, bringing rigorous due diligence and underwriting to its portfolio companies.
