SBF Secures €6 Million Contract with PESA for Krakow Trams

SBF AG, a publicly traded specialist in rolling stock, lighting, electromechanics, and sensor technology, has received a new order from PESA, a leading Polish rolling stock manufacturer, to equip new trams for Krakow. The contract, valued at approximately 6 million euros, covers the outfitting of 90 vehicles in three- and four-car configurations, with production scheduled to begin and first delivery planned for March 2027. Deliveries are expected to continue through 2030. The announcement was made via NEWMEDIAWIRE.

Under the agreement, SBF will supply interior ceilings—including air conditioning ducts—interior lighting, and the support structure for the new platform. This is the second joint project between SBF and PESA, following the tram project for Leipzig. The contract expands SBF’s customer base to include yet another leading European vehicle manufacturer, reinforcing its position as a Tier 1 systems supplier in the rolling stock sector.

Robert Stocklinger, Member of the Management Board of SBF AG, said: “Our partnership with PESA is a strong testament to the reliability and quality of our services. This expands our customer base to include yet another leading European vehicle manufacturer. The contract demonstrates that our system expertise in interior headliners and lighting is in demand even on new vehicle platforms.” The order also signals potential for further collaboration in tram interior design, as SBF sees additional opportunities arising from this partnership.

The deal matters because it underscores SBF’s ability to win contracts from major European manufacturers on new vehicle platforms, a key indicator of the company’s competitive strength in the rolling stock supply chain. The Krakow tram project not only adds a substantial revenue stream over several years but also strengthens SBF’s relationship with PESA, opening doors to future orders. For PESA, partnering with SBF ensures access to high-quality interior systems “Made in Germany,” which are increasingly important for critical infrastructure clients. SBF’s development and manufacturing take place almost exclusively at its own facilities in Germany and Europe, a level of vertical integration that is becoming a key criterion for clients in the critical infrastructure sector when awarding contracts.

In its “Rolling Stock” business segment, SBF supplies complex interior, ceiling, and lighting systems to the world’s leading rolling stock manufacturers and is emerging as a systems partner for safety-critical interior functions. The company’s other segments—Public and Industrial Lighting, and Sensor Technology and Electromechanics—further diversify its portfolio. With this latest order, SBF continues to address long-term trends such as mobility, infrastructure modernization, digitalization, and automation.
