Sigyn Therapeutics, Inc. (OTCQB: SIGY) announced today that a study published in Science Translational Medicine and featured in Scientific American provides clinical evidence of long-term blood-brain barrier disruption in former contact sports athletes, supporting the potential application of the company's CardioDialysis technology in neuroinflammatory diseases.

Researchers at Trinity College Dublin reported the first clinical evidence of blood-brain barrier disruption and associated inflammation in living individuals suspected of having Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). The study, published on March 21 in Science Translational Medicine and covered by Scientific American in an article titled “Brain’s Protective Barrier Stays Leaky for Years after Playing Contact Sports,” found that the blood-brain barrier may remain compromised and permeable for decades after an athlete retires from sports involving repetitive head trauma.

When the blood-brain barrier is compromised, inflammatory molecules and pathogenic toxins in the bloodstream can enter the brain, triggering neuroinflammation and abnormal accumulation of tau protein, a hallmark of CTE. The researchers also observed that former athletes appeared to exist in a persistent state of chronic hyperinflammation.

Sigyn Therapeutics' CardioDialysis is a next-generation blood purification technology that enables continuous broad-spectrum clearance of inflammatory and pathogenic molecules from the bloodstream. According to the company, this mechanism positions CardioDialysis as a potential adjunct therapy for neuroinflammatory conditions by reducing systemic inflammation that drives neuroinflammation in disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

The Trinity study adds to evidence that systemic inflammation is a key driver of neuroinflammation. Sigyn is pursuing a strategic transaction focused on using CardioDialysis to reduce systemic inflammation associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The company's lead clinical indication remains cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death worldwide.
