The Way of the Holy Grail Cultural Association is bringing a cultural cycle to seven municipalities in the province of Teruel from September 11 to 19, 2026. The initiative, subsidized by the Government of Aragon under Order ECD/500/2026, aims to connect local populations with the historical and monumental heritage of their towns while promoting the route of The Way of the Holy Grail.
The cycle will feature conferences in Báguena, San Martín del Río, Fuentes Claras, Caminreal, San Agustín, Albentosa, and La Puebla de Valverde. Each session, titled "The Way of the Holy Grail and its passage through [municipality]," will be led by Joaquín Poquet of ArtCare Consulting. The talks will explore each locality's heritage—churches, castles, hermitages, bridges, and archaeological sites—within the context of the route, carefully distinguishing documented history from cultural interpretation.
This approach matters because it empowers small towns to take ownership of their cultural resources and integrate them into a broader narrative. By bringing cultural activities directly to the territory, the project reinforces local identity and fosters community participation. As the Association emphasizes, the Camino cannot be understood merely as a line on a map; it is the villages, landscapes, and people that give it continuity.
The programme also highlights Aragon's fundamental role in the history of The Way of the Holy Grail. The Holy Chalice, now kept in Valencia Cathedral since 1437, has a historical tradition that places a significant part of its journey in Aragonese territory, particularly in Huesca and the Pyrenees. Since its founding in 2002, the Cultural Association has worked to establish and promote a land route connecting the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña with the Cathedral of Valencia, crossing numerous Aragonese municipalities.
The September conferences contribute to disseminating the route and valuing the heritage of the small towns along it. This local focus is part of a larger effort: the International Association Cultural Route The Way of the Holy Grail in Europe is working to present the route as a candidate for Cultural Route of the Council of Europe. Such recognition would elevate these municipalities within a European cultural framework, making local heritage an essential piece of a wider narrative.
Additionally, the Association manages the official pilgrimage credential of The Way of the Holy Grail, now in its fourth edition, with over 31,000 units produced. This demonstrates the growing interest in the route and the Association's commitment to linking research, dissemination, and local participation.
