Total Wireless and Western Union Expand Partnership to Bring Financial Services to Retail Locations Nationwide

Total Wireless, a prepaid wireless provider under the Verizon Value portfolio, has announced an expanded partnership with Western Union to bring a suite of financial services to its retail locations across the United States. The services, which include money transfers, bill pay, and money orders, will be available at participating stores starting today, with a nationwide rollout expected by the end of 2026. This move is set to provide communities with greater access to essential financial tools, particularly in areas where traditional banking services may be limited.

The expansion builds on Total Wireless's earlier initiative in June, when it became the first U.S. wireless carrier to offer monthly money transfers at no additional cost to customers on select plans. Under the new agreement, eligible customers on MAX 5G BYO, MAX 5G, and ALL ACCESS plans will continue to receive one fee-free Western Union money transfer each month, redeemable through Western Union's website, mobile app, or participating Total Wireless stores. This benefit is part of Total Wireless's broader commitment to delivering meaningful value beyond connectivity.

David Kim, President of Verizon Value, emphasized the community-centric nature of the partnership. "Our stores are gathering places in the communities we serve," he said. "By adding Western Union to the retail experience, we're expanding access to everyday financial services for everyone. Whether customers need to send money, pay bills, or purchase money orders, they can now do it at Total Wireless, right alongside getting the reliable 5G connectivity they count on. That's what it means to put community first."

The services will be available to all customers at standard Western Union rates, with no requirement to be a Total Wireless subscriber. This means that even non-customers can visit a participating Total Wireless store to utilize Western Union's services, further integrating the stores into the local community fabric. The global reach of Western Union allows users to send money to over 200 countries and territories, supported by a network of more than 360,000 payout locations worldwide.

Jesse Mory, Senior Vice President of Strategic Partnerships at Western Union, highlighted the importance of meeting customers where they already shop. "Millions of customers rely on Western Union to move money across borders with speed and confidence," he said. "By bringing our services to Total Wireless stores, we're meeting more customers where they already shop and expanding access to reliable, convenient financial services. This partnership strengthens our presence in communities where our customers live and work."

The expanded partnership is a strategic move for both companies. For Total Wireless, it differentiates the brand in a competitive prepaid wireless market, offering a unique value proposition that extends beyond typical telecom services. For Western Union, it provides an additional distribution channel, increasing its physical presence in underserved areas. The collaboration is expected to drive foot traffic to Total Wireless stores, potentially boosting sales of wireless plans and devices, while also enhancing Western Union's transaction volume.

This initiative also aligns with broader trends in the financial services industry, where non-traditional players are increasingly offering financial products to meet consumer demand for convenience and accessibility. By integrating financial services into retail locations, Total Wireless and Western Union are addressing the needs of unbanked and underbanked populations, who may lack access to traditional banking infrastructure. The partnership underscores a growing recognition that connectivity and financial inclusion are intertwined, and that providing both can have a transformative impact on communities.

The fee-free transfer benefit is valid once per month for eligible customers and applies to Western Union transfer fees only; exchange rates and applicable taxes or surcharges may apply.
