Trilogy Metals (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) has completed its 2026 summer field program at the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects in northwestern Alaska, meeting all priority objectives. The program was carried out by Ambler Metals, the company’s 50/50 joint venture with South32 Limited, and included 42 geotechnical, hydrogeological, condemnation and exploration drill holes totaling approximately 5,200 meters. This work is intended to support mine design, infrastructure planning and permitting at the Arctic Project, a volcanogenic massive sulfide deposit that is central to Trilogy’s development plans.
The completion of the field program matters because it keeps the Arctic Project on a path toward regulatory review. Trilogy anticipates a draft environmental impact statement targeted for October 2027 and a record of decision targeted for September 2028. Those milestones are critical for the project’s timeline and for the company’s ability to move from exploration and design into permitting and potential construction. The program also included exploration target assessments along a 100-kilometer VMS belt, which will guide drilling priorities for 2027 and help define additional opportunities within the district.
Ambler Metals appointed David Thomas, a mining industry veteran with more than 40 years of experience, as senior vice president of project development. Thomas will lead engineering and development at Arctic, a role that is important as the project advances through technical studies and permitting. The appointment signals a focus on execution and project delivery as Trilogy prepares for increased exploration and development activity in 2027.
The Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects are located within the Ambler Mining District, which Trilogy describes as one of the richest and most-prospective known copper-dominant districts in the world. The district hosts polymetallic VMS deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization. Exploration efforts have focused on the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit, both within a land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares. Ambler Metals also has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, providing a framework for exploration and potential development in cooperation with local communities.
For investors, the completed field program and the targeted permitting schedule provide greater visibility on the path to development. Trilogy’s vision is to develop the Ambler Mining District into a premier North American copper producer while protecting and respecting subsistence livelihoods.
