tZERO Secures CFTC Approval for Derivatives Clearing, Expanding Institutional Infrastructure

tZERO Group, Inc., the Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) company powering the tokenized economy, has received approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to register its wholly owned subsidiary, tZERO DCO, LLC, as a derivatives clearing organization (DCO). The approval, announced via NEWMEDIAWIRE, marks a significant expansion of tZERO's regulated infrastructure beyond securities and tokenized assets into derivatives clearing. A derivatives contract market (DCM) registration is expected to follow shortly, which would complete the company's ability to operate a full-fledged derivatives exchange and clearinghouse.

The DCO approval is important because it allows tZERO to provide clearing and settlement services for derivatives transactions, managing counterparty credit risk under CFTC oversight. This opens new opportunities for institutional clients to develop derivative products such as event contracts, and, subject to regulatory product approvals, tokenized and conventional derivatives, perpetual futures, and other crypto products. By adding derivatives to its existing securities and tokenized asset capabilities, tZERO can now offer full-stack turnkey services and horizontal interoperability across securities and derivatives workflows, a combination that distinguishes it in the tokenization market where many providers focus only on issuing or servicing tokenized assets.

For institutional clients, the new capabilities create a path to build derivative offerings using tZERO's trading and clearing infrastructure, subject to product approvals, applicable regulatory requirements, and operational readiness. This advances tZERO's broader multi-asset model, designed to help institutions offer customers access to a range of financial products through modular integrations and white label solutions. The company announced its applications for both registrations in September 2025, and the DCO approval represents a major milestone in that licensing journey.

Alan Konevsky, Chief Executive Officer of tZERO, said the approval is a major expansion of what tZERO can build with institutions, noting that institutions increasingly want the flexibility to bring multiple asset classes to their customers. Vanessa Savino, Chief Legal and Administrative Officer, called it a pinnacle moment in the company's licensing journey, emphasizing that tZERO will grow the new capability iteratively, responsibly, and in step with client needs. Al Swimmer, Chief Strategic Relationships Officer, added that the registrations position tZERO to work with partners earlier in the process of developing derivatives offerings, helping shape products around their customers' needs.

The new entities will enable tZERO to support institutional clients that wish to develop derivatives products for trading through its newly approved clearinghouse and pending exchange, subject to applicable regulatory and operational requirements. Separately, tZERO's multi-asset strategy includes enabling access to products offered on third-party markets through its introducing broker. Together, these capabilities will help institutional partners offer a broader range of products across tZERO's multi-asset platform. More information about tZERO DCO, LLC can be found here.
