VolitionRx Signs LOI with Missionpharma to Advance NETosis Diagnostic for Neonatal Sepsis

VolitionRx Limited (NYSE American: VNRX), a multinational epigenetics company, has signed a nonbinding letter of intent with Denmark-based Missionpharma A/S to explore global development and commercialization of its prototype lateral flow technology for detecting NETosis, a process associated with inflammation. The collaboration will initially focus on evaluating the finger-prick diagnostic test for neonatal sepsis, with potential applications in low- and middle-income countries and humanitarian emergency settings.

The significance of the announcement lies in its potential to address a critical gap in neonatal care. Neonatal sepsis remains a leading cause of infant mortality worldwide, particularly in resource-constrained regions where early identification and management are challenging. Volition's lateral flow test is designed to measure circulating nucleosomes and neutrophil extracellular traps as early indicators of hyperinflammation, offering a simpler alternative to centralized laboratory testing. Recent results from Volition's prototype demonstrated high correlation with its established automated Nu.Q NETs test in critically ill sepsis patients, suggesting the lateral flow version could be a reliable and rapid diagnostic tool.

Missionpharma, which supplies healthcare products to United Nations agencies, government health ministries, and other institutions, could support low-cost manufacturing, clinical studies, and distribution. This partnership may accelerate access to affordable diagnostic tools in areas where they are most needed. "We believe this collaboration could be a significant step forward in making our NETosis diagnostic accessible to the populations that need it most," said a Volition spokesperson. The LOI is nonbinding, but it signals both companies' intent to explore a formal agreement.

For investors, the news highlights Volition's strategy to expand its epigenetics-based diagnostics beyond centralized labs and into point-of-care settings. The company's Nu.Q platform, which includes tests for certain cancers and NETosis-related diseases like sepsis, aims to enable earlier detection and monitoring to improve patient outcomes. The collaboration with Missionpharma could open new markets and revenue streams while advancing global health goals.
